About Allen
As a teacher and tutor for more than 15 years, I'm proud of the work my LSAT students have done.
I went to law school because I care deeply about civil rights and liberties. Because of my LSAT scores, I was able to attend the University of Virginia and work on some exciting projects connected to constitutional law. I want to help other people earn scores that open doors for them, too.

There's a reason my LSAT students so often find remarkable success: We do good work together, and we tailor it to your unique brain.
I use my years as a teacher and tutor to work with you in the way that helps you most. That's true no matter where you are -- whether you're struggling to figure out an early strategy path, or already at the top and hoping to open a few more doors.
* Are you just starting out? We'll make a coaching plan that includes an introduction to logic. I studied logical reasoning as an undergraduate, and it's even more fun to teach. (It's the #1 skill for aspiring law students.)
* Have you been working at this for a while? We'll make sure to use what you know about what works for you -- and what doesn't. We can focus on the most difficult argument types and reading passages, and play with some new approaches that pay off.
When it comes to test prep, I know a few tricks that other tutors miss. Some of them might seem obvious -- you can try them on your own! -- but over and over again, I find my LSAT students say that it helps them to have a patient, kind, and relentless coach who will:
(1) Break down the art of the argument, step by step. Too often, tutors breeze past the important parts of WHY an answer is right, or don't ask enough about what YOU understand. We'll take a closer look, and you'll learn to pinpoint exactly where you have questions. I'll be there with you, every step of the way.
(2) Never ignore correct answers. Some of the best growth I've seen comes after asking students about why they got a question RIGHT. When you breeze past your successes, it's harder to build on them. (And you can overlook occasions where you got something right for the wrong reasons.)
(3) Cement new skills right away. I can provide new examples of any skill we learn, so you gain confidence in what you know. That's the way to keep those gains!
I'll work with your schedule and budget to make a coaching plan that's right for you. Here's one that often suits LSAT students well:
* Meet twice a week, for 90 minutes, so you stay sharp.
* Take regular practice tests.
* Tackle a mix of fresh drills and test recaps.
