About Jonathan
Hi,I'm Jonathan.I've loved Mathematics since I was at school and it was very easy to decide to study the subject further at Uni.
While at uni I had part time jobs working in elderly care and my first job after graduating was as a Social Therapist where I worked in Mental Health assisting in facilitating psychotherapeutic groups.
I found this job massively rewarding but I wanted something that used my skills as a mathematician.
Teaching seemed the obvious way to have a career that involved working with and helping people that also used Mathematics.
Since thenI've taught Mathematics and Teaching Mathematics for 20 years.

My teaching career has involved teaching all levels age 11-19 in Secondary School, specialising in A level Maths and Further Maths at an FE college and lecturing in initial teacher education at University.
Throughout my career I have tutored privately as well. I focus on being flexible in lessons so that I can respond most effectively to the individual needs of each student. I try to focus on improving confidence in the subject first, particularly in cases where the student has anxieties about mathematics.
I specialise in A level Maths and Further Maths. In these sessions I will use past paper questions extensively. I have a great deal of experience and knowledge about preparing for the A level exam.
Generally, I don't believe in teaching quick tricks to answer questions. Instead I focus on developing a fluency in the language of Mathematics first. Exam boards expect students aiming for the top grades to be able to apply their knowledge to unusual problems and for this a fluency in Maths and familiarity with problem solving is essential.
