About Thomas
Experienced teacher of History, Politics and Sociology with a record of strong outcomes at KS5. I currently lead on the whole school approach to citizenship education.
I am a History/Politics graduate, and an accredited UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador (Gold Standard). Expertise in democratic engagement, exam technique and embedding core concepts and knowledge.
I aim to work with students to help them achieve their goals, whether that is securing a pass or turning an A to an A*, by offering tailored, personalised support.

I aim to tailor the needs of lessons to the needs of the individual pupil. Before beginning tutoring, I will ask a range of questions to enable me to identify the areas in need of development so that I can develop sessions which are bespoke to the pupil's need.
Sessions can focus on recapping and reviewing specific content from within the course, or we can review content more broadly through the lens of refining exam technique. The former approach would involve discussion of key concepts and developing revision techniques, while the latter would involve planning questions together and then giving the pupil the opportunity to answer this after the session (which I would then mark). These two approaches are not mutually exclusive, and I would advise drawing elements from both. As a practising school teacher, I can draw on my experiences to identify and pre-empt common misconceptions which students have about content and exam technique.
Lessons can be as brief or long as the pupil requires, but I would encourage bookings to be between 50 to 90 minutes.
