About Xie
Hello! I’m Huanhuan Xie, a soprano and voice teacher based in Minneapolis. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Music from New England Conservatory. My performance experience includes appearances in the United States, France, Italy, and Germany, and I bring that experience into my teaching to help students connect vocal technique with confident, expressive singing.
I believe students learn best when they feel respected, encouraged, and comfortable asking questions. You can expect thoughtfully prepared lessons, clear explanations, constructive feedback, and practical guidance for your practice at home. Whether you are discovering your voice or preparing for an important audition, we will work together toward goals that reflect your interests and stage of development.
I welcome teen and adult singers, including beginners and college-level students. I also speak Mandarin Chinese and enjoy helping students explore Chinese songs, pronunciation, and musical expression. You don’t need to arrive with a “perfect” voice—just curiosity and a willingness to learn. I look forward to helping you grow as a singer and musician.

I take a supportive, student-centered approach to voice teaching, adapting each lesson to the singer’s goals, experience, and musical interests. I combine clear explanations, vocal demonstrations, and targeted exercises to help students understand both what to practice and why. We work on breath coordination, comfortable vocal production, pitch accuracy, diction, and musical expression, connecting technical exercises directly to the songs students want to sing.
A lesson begins with a brief check-in about your voice and practice since our last meeting. We then use warm-ups and focused exercises to address a specific goal before applying those skills to your repertoire. Depending on your needs, we may also work on pronunciation, interpretation, stage presence, or audition preparation. Each lesson ends with a short review and a manageable practice plan so you know what to work on independently.
I hold a DMA in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree from New England Conservatory. My teaching draws on performance experience in the United States and Europe, alongside doctoral research exploring bel canto, musical theater, and contemporary commercial music. I help students connect vocal technique with expressive storytelling while developing their own sound. I also speak Mandarin Chinese and welcome students interested in Chinese songs, pronunciation, and interpretation.
I welcome teen and adult singers, from beginners to college-level voice students. Lessons can support personal enjoyment, choir participation, classical repertoire, musical theater, or audition preparation. Whether you are building foundational skills or refining an existing technique, we will set clear goals and work at a pace that supports your development.
