My lessons are designed to help IGCSE Edexcel, Cambridge, Pearson, and AQA A-Level students achieve top grades in German exams, as well as TELC B2/C1 learners.

I focus on structured exam preparation using authentic materials, timed exercises, and practical strategies drawn from my experience as an external examiner.
Students learn exactly what examiners look for and how to maximise marks in speaking, writing, and comprehension.

Lessons are tailored to each student or small group: Small-group intensives / bootcamps: interactive practice, peer feedback, and examiner-informed strategies 1:1 private sessions: personalised guidance, targeted skill development, and step-by-step exam plans.

A typical lesson includes:
- Warm-up and review of previous material
- Focused skill-building (speaking, writing, comprehension)
- Practice with real exam tasks
- Personalised feedback and action steps for improvement

My approach is goal-oriented, structured, and results-driven, ensuring students gain confidence, practical exam skills, and the strategies they need to excel. Each lesson is designed to deliver measurable progress, even in short timeframes leading up to exams.

Online lessons are just as exam-focused and interactive as live sessions, with all materials and examiner strategies included.

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak German fluently because it is my native language-it's part of my origin. However, it was my secondary school teacher who truly ignited my passion for the language. She recognized my natural talent for creative writing and encouraged me to explore new dimensions of my mother tongue. Known for being strict and a tough corrector, it came as a huge surprise-and a great motivation-when I became the first student in the history of our school to receive a grade 1 (A)* in creative writing from her. Her belief in me pushed me to expand my language skills and deepened my appreciation for how language can be a powerful tool for self-expression and creativity.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

One iconic figure who represents German culture is Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. As one of Germany's most influential writers, his works-especially Faust-embody the depth and complexity of the German language. Goethe's ability to express profound philosophical ideas through elegant language is something that continues to inspire both learners of German and native speakers alike.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

One word I particularly like is "Honigkuchenpferd", which literally translates to "honey cake horse." It's a funny and endearing term used to describe someone who has a big, beaming smile-like the one you might see on a person receiving a big compliment or on the face of someone who is just very happy. The image of a horse made of honey cake is a bit whimsical, and it perfectly captures the playful and charming side of the German language. I love how this word conveys joy in such a vivid and sweet way!
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking German matters to me because it connects me to a rich intellectual tradition that has shaped the world in profound ways. From a young age, I was deeply fascinated by German philosophy, particularly the works of thinkers like Kant and Hegel, whose ideas continue to influence contemporary thought. For me, the German language is not just a means of communication-it's a gateway to understanding the ideas of some of the greatest minds in history. German allows me to engage with these texts in their original form, appreciating the nuances and depth of the language that is sometimes lost in translation. It's this connection to philosophy, culture, science and history that drives my passion for the language and fuels my desire to share it with others.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

One of the main challenges in learning German is its complex grammar, especially with cases, articles, and word order. However, the key to overcoming this is consistent practice and understanding the "why" behind the rules. I find that breaking the language down into manageable parts and focusing on real-world applications-like speaking with native speakers, watching German media, or using immersive learning tools-greatly helps with retention and comprehension.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

One of my most memorable language learning experiences was when I first began teaching German in London. I was tutoring a group of students who were passionate but had little knowledge of the language. To make lessons more engaging, I introduced them to a popular German song called 99 Luftballons by Nena. After just a few weeks, they were singing along to the chorus! It was a reminder of how powerful music and culture can be in making language learning fun and accessible.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Originally, I come from the mystical and beautiful Black Forest region, where people speak with a distinctive accent and often mix expressions with French, due to the area's proximity to the border. I've always been fascinated by how language evolves and is shaped by various influences-even within the same country. Over the years, I've had the privilege of exploring all corners of Germany. Living in Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Berlin, I've experienced the unique dialects, cultural flavours, and regional customs of each area. My trips to Austria and Switzerland further deepened this experience, allowing me to explore how the German language varies across different German-speaking countries. This journey through my own country and beyond has given me a deeper understanding of the language's regional nuances. It has also broadened my perspective on how language can differ from region to region, and I bring this rich, diverse knowledge into my teaching to help students appreciate the full spectrum of the language.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

What sets me apart as a language tutor is my personalized approach-I don't just teach German, I help students connect with it. With over 20 years of experience, I've developed methods that cater to the unique needs of each learner. I draw from my academic background, my experience as a language examiner, and my passion for cultural education to create engaging lessons that not only teach the language but also offer insights into the culture, history, and nuances of German-speaking countries. My dedication to my students' success and my ability to make learning enjoyable is what truly makes me a Superprof.
