About Simon
I am a second year maths student at Imperial College London. I sat my school maths exams in the near past so I have a great understanding of the work that is needed in order to do well.
At high school I qualified for and received a distinction in the British Mathematical Olympiad. I also received 99% in my advanced higher maths. As well as tutoring for school maths exams, I offer MAT and STEP tutorials. I have sat both of these exams myself and so know the pitfalls and places to pick up marks.
Over the past 5 years I have tutored and progressed a large number of students through their school maths exams. I have experience in tutoring all A level maths modules, mainly Edexcel but I am very happy to spend time looking at other exam boards. I also have experience in tutoring GCSE maths. From all this experience I know the types of questions that pupils often struggle with and strategies to make these questions more manageable.
As well as experience in tutoring maths I have taught piano for a number of years.

I like to find out what topic the pupil is struggling with and come up with suitable questions, that teach them skills, that can then be transferred into similar questions from past papers. I also find it useful for the pupil to work on a few questions through the week and then we can look at any difficulties they had, in a one-to-one environment they might not get time for with a teacher in the classroom. As it gets closer to exams I find the most important thing is for the student to be doing a past paper every week and then going through this in tutorials together as well as looking at new questions from past papers. I can set questions for the pupil to use during the week if this is something that would be helpful to them.
