I first endeavour to establish how each student works best, and the specific problems they have in a subject, whether it be not understanding a certain topic or not knowing how to revise effectively, and go from there. I personally believe that really understanding something is the key to achieving good results, and simply learning how to answer questions with no knowledge of how or why it works is completely pointless, and so I try to explain everything in such a way that students have a sense of satisfaction that they 'get it's.
