About Steve
I have more than 35 years of experience providing IT services to organizations and individuals, as a consultant, a teacher, and a manager. My teaching background includes serving as the full-time lead networking instructor at a local community college and teaching at various other colleges and private training programs. For decades I have provided hands-on technical support to small- and medium-size businesses and to individuals—designing, implementing, and supporting computer system ranging from single computers to networks of dozens of workstations, servers, and related infrastructure and software.
The topics I teach include:
• Preparing for IT certification exams, such as the CompTIA A+ exams.
• Enhancing skills with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. MS Word, Excel) and with Windows itself.
• Help with internet access, searches, and applications (such as email, Google, Zoom, etc.)
• A wide range of other IT topics, including networks, servers, operating systems, hardware components, and troubleshooting.

I offer one-on-one or small group, online tutoring (using Zoom) for mature junior high, high school, and college students, as well as for adults not enrolled in any school program. We can customize a program that fits your needs, from basic/introductory to more advanced topics, for just a couple of sessions as and when needed, or ongoing, regularly scheduled sessions. Sessions are available by appointment in the afternoons (US Pacific Time), seven days a week.
Sessions are designed to deliver in-depth technical knowledge while also focusing on motivation and career, educational, and test-taking strategies. They emphasize understanding and addressing the unique needs of each student, offering both technical learning and emotional support.
Learning technology takes effort; however, I find learning and teaching to be enjoyable, exciting, and fulfilling and I will do my best to help you share those feelings. If you're already highly motivated, great! If not, we will work patiently, but persistently to build a foundation of increasing successes that can strengthen your self-confidence and motivation.
I can guide you in the use of some of the better free learning resources and we can use our time together resolving some of the hurdles that would otherwise be show-stoppers for your learning if left unanswered.
