About Jasper

I am Jasper, a student majoring in Japanese Studies and Spanish Studies at Monash University, having completed Advanced Japanese (the final level) last year in 2025, and I will be studying Advanced Spanish in 2026.

I completed Japanese in VCE, graduating back in 2021. I have since revised the Japanese curriculum as I furthered my knowledge of Japanese at the university level, keeping me familiar with the ins and outs of the VCE curriculum.

I completed a university exchange in Osaka, Japan, back in 2023, and worked as an English teaching assistant in Valencia, Spain, in 2024. These intercultural experiences further equipped me with an intricate understanding of not only the languages but also the culture and customs of Japan and Spain.

About the lesson

My teaching focuses on structure and confidence-building. I break down grammar into simple patterns while prioritizing active use of Japanese through conversation. Lessons are aligned closely with the VCE curriculum, with targeted exam practice, model responses and strategies for SACs and the oral exam. I adapt my approach to each student’s learning style, combining textbook knowledge with cultural context to make the language feel intuitive rather than mechanical.

Tutoring sessions usually run for at least an hour, which allows enough time to revise content, schoolwork and practice exam-style questions. Longer sessions are available if needed.

I completed VCE Japanese in 2021 and have since undertaken extensive university-level study, completing Advanced Japanese (final level) at Monash University in 2025. I have also completed a university exchange in Osaka, where I immersed myself in Japanese language and culture. In addition, I worked as an English teaching assistant in Spain, developing strong teaching, communication and student-support skills.

My lessons are best suited for VCE Japanese students (Years 10–12), including beginners through to advanced learners preparing for Units 3 & 4. I also support students who need help with confidence, exam technique, or refining their written and spoken Japanese.
