About Hector

With 31 years, Héctor Luna has established himself as a leading guitarist for Jazz and Jazz Manouche in Mexico. He was born in Azcapotzalco, Mexico City, 1988. He began his musical studies at age 12 in classical guitar, music theory and auditory training with private teachers. At age 17 he entered the Higher School of Composition and Musical Arrangement under the direction of Prof. Elias Amabilis. After five years of training at ESCAM, he decided to continue his studies in composition and applied harmony with guitarist Eduardo Piastro, coordinator of the Superior School of Jazz, as well as with Pancho Saenz, Berklee's outstanding teacher, currently residing in Mexico. In 2011 he began his studies in Audio Engineering simultaneously with the Diploma in Audio and Digital Technologies, both taught at Cap Digi. That same year he integrates the “Arrabal” Jazz Manouche project with Carlos Cáceres, with which he performed live “The Camera Man,” a 20-year-old film by Buster Keaton. with the musical composition for contemporary theater among which his participation with experimental electronic music in the Closing of the World Theater Day of the CNA is worth mentioning, as well as the work of Antígona González in collaboration with the ENAT, an institution where he served as a music advisor. The most outstanding work in this field of theater was the musical composition and sound design of the work The Matrimony Palavrakis with the company Theater in Code under the direction of Laura Uribe and Marianela Villa. With this project he toured as guests of the International Theater Festival in Manizales Colombia and the Santiago a Mil International Festival in Santiago de Chile At the national level, they made presentations at the El Galeon Theater of the Cutural Forest Center, the Jalisco State Theater Show, 35 National Theater Show Monterrey, World Theater Day in Puebla and, finally, a season at El Milagro Theater , where they unveiled a plaque for the performance of 100 functions throughout these national and international participations. The music created for The Palavrakis Marriage was recorded and made available to the public on different musical platforms. It is from the creation of this EP that Héctor Luna creates with Martín López and Carlos Cáceres the experimental music project (Avant-garde) De Oir Duele la Boca, based on sound experimentation, looking for forms of composition through free improvisation, the object and disciplines such as theater, cinema, painting, installation, sound art, etc; thus creating multidisciplinary spaces. His most recent participation in musical composition and sound design for theater was in the play "Don Juan or the Stone Feast" (2018) by Moliere under the direction of Emmanuel Varela. Another outstanding collaboration of the guitarist under the same dynamic of composition and design but closer to dance is in “LEDA” (2019) a Cabaret show directed by the dancer and choreographer Marisol Cal y Mayor. From 2012 to date they have presented with different assemblies in forums and important spaces of Mexico City and the country such as Zinco Jazz Club, Parker and Lenox, Jazzatlan Capital, Cultural Center of the Forest, National Auditorium, National National Center of the Arts , El Milagro Theater, Spain Cultural Center, Benito Juárez Theater, National Center for the Arts, National School of Theater Arts, El Convite, New Orleans Jazz Club, El Zócalo Capitalino, Autonomous University of Nuevo León, Cervantino Festival, Museo del Chopo, , Main Theater of Puebla, Experimental Theater of Jalisco, National Auditorium, Main Theater of Puebla and Theater of the City Esperanza íris.
