About Quincy
My name is Quincy, I am a junior at UNC Chapel Hill and I went to Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. I am majoring in African American Diaspora Studies and Business and am eager to help younger students prepare for high level college writing as well as college app essays. I am easygoing and have a lot of teaching experience as a permanent substitute so this is a field in which I am very comfortable in. I am excited to help you become the best writer you can be!

My teaching philosophy is to find fun in the more mundane parts of life, which for highschool and middleschoolers is mostly their academics. My lesson would emphasize the importance and success that writers have when editing to write instead of writing to edit. A typical lesson plan if we are focusing on writing or reading would be to read a text that interests the student, break it down and write a short essay based off of a discussion question. I would go through the whole writing process with them, the good habits, the bad ones I have gotten rid of and newly discovered tactics that the student may be able to implement. In doing so, we would inadvertently be editing his or her paper while writing it. In turn, we could then do another reading and short essay with less guidance from me and see how well the tactics materialized in his or her writing style. I would then ask the student to take a piece of my writing that is wordy and scattered and ask them to edit in a way that makes it as polished and coherent as possible. By doing these sort of lesson plans, the student will develop a very streamlined and versatile system that will help them with writing papers close to a deadline, preparing for harder college graders as well as college essays which are really limited word wise.
