About Charlotte

Hi, I’m Charlotte! I’m completing my Master’s in International Relations at King’s College London’s Department of War Studies, having previously graduated from the University of Cambridge.

My postgraduate work has covered International Relations theory, political Islam, conflict and security, terrorism and counterterrorism, technology and warfare, and Middle Eastern politics. My dissertation research focuses on jihadist organisations, leadership and political/religious authority.

Alongside my academic work, I have professional experience in international affairs, including work with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which has given me experience of how international politics operates beyond the classroom.

I particularly enjoy research and academic writing, and have consistently achieved high marks in essay-based postgraduate work. I’m friendly and approachable, and I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, testing ideas and disagreeing with me.

About the lesson

International Relations can become much easier once you move beyond memorising theories and begin understanding how to use them to construct an argument. My lessons focus on developing that understanding alongside the analytical and writing skills needed for high-level university work.

Sessions are completely tailored to your needs. We can work through IR theories and concepts, discuss readings, develop essay arguments, improve structure and critical analysis, or work on research design and dissertation planning. I can also help with referencing, literature reviews, policy writing and making academic writing clearer and more persuasive.

Rather than simply editing your work, I focus on helping you understand why an argument works and how to develop your own academic voice. Whether you are struggling with a particular theory, staring at an essay question with no idea where to begin, or trying to push good work into a higher grade band, we can build sessions around exactly what you need
