About Nathaniel

Hi, I'm Nathaniel, a patient and knowledgeable tutor here to help release student potential through personalised and research-based educational approaches! I have extensive experience in online tutoring, having delivered over 360 lessons to 18 students. Combining this experience with my exceptional educational attainment of 4 A*s at A Level, 10 Grade 9s at GCSE and as a Biology Olympiad Finalist, I know the steps needed to master topics, skills and exams. Throughout my tutoring career, I've received positive feedback from both parents and pupils... Pupils have often described how I've helped them understand concepts that school lessons never could, feel more confident in the subject, become motivated to work outside of tutor sessions, and even develop new passions! Some have even reported grade increases of 20%! Parents have complimented me for my professionalism, engagement with students, and for keeping them informed about their child's progress. My experience of building rapports with a wide profile of students has also taught me to be adaptable and patient with different abilities and to accommodate anxious and struggling students

About the lesson

My sessions extend beyond online videos, flashcards, or practice papers. I use teaching methods often missed in schools, cementing understanding and building on that foundation to deconstruct exam questions, making them less intimidating. I prioritise deep understanding over brief skimming, adapting to students' needs and abilities. Here’s an outline of our goals for one or two hours' worth of lessons. LO 1: Understand the Topic and Describe, State, and Explain Exam Questions Why? Understanding is foundational. Time spent on this varies with confidence. Sometimes it takes a whole lesson; often, students already understand, and I focus on the next learning steps. LO 2: Apply Understanding to Core Concepts to Exam Questions Why? Adapting principles to new areas is key in exams. I guide students in using higher-order cognitive skills like analysis, application, and evaluation, crucial for exams and future jobs. LO 3a: Data Analysis and Challenging Concepts Why? Data analysis is vital in exams and life. I help students develop these skills for assessments. LO 3b: Answer Essay-Style Questions Why? Regular essay questions build confidence. We’ll focus on experiment design and effective communication, ensuring correct terminology use. Plenary: I provide positive, constructive feedback, give weekly recommendations, and assign "homework" based on requests. I was lucky enough to have Nathaniel’s tutoring for the last year of my alevels and while I am still waiting for my results, his help made me feel confident I was the best I could be going into my exams. There is nothing more I could have asked from a tutor, he was so knowledgeable yet friendly. He always took the time to explain everything perfectly. He pushed me at the right times but I always looked forward to his sessions. It goes without saying he was also super professional and punctual.
