About Nicola
Hello, I'm Nicola, an experienced primary school teacher with over 20 years' experience in both state and independent education.
I'm passionate about helping children feel confident in their abilities and discover that learning can be enjoyable. I particularly love English and creative writing because they give children the opportunity to use their imagination, express themselves and develop their own voice.
I'm warm, patient and encouraging, but I also believe in setting high expectations and helping children recognise what they are capable of. I take time to get to know each child so that lessons feel personal rather than generic.
Whether your child needs some extra support with English or would simply love the opportunity to explore creative writing, my aim is for them to finish each lesson feeling proud of what they have achieved and excited to learn more.

My lessons are aimed primarily at children in Key Stage 1 (ages 5–7) who would benefit from additional support, encouragement or enrichment in English, as well as children who simply love stories and want to develop their creative writing skills.
I can support children with phonics, reading, spelling, vocabulary, sentence construction and early writing. I hold a PGCE and a degree in English Literature and Media, and have led Key Stage 1, English and wellbeing over 20 years of teaching in both the state and independent sectors. I understand that children learn in different ways and that teaching is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and I have experience working with children with a range of different needs, including but not exclusively neurodivergent learners. I tailor each lesson to the individual child's strengths, needs and interests.
I bring a calm and encouraging approach to tutoring, with a particular passion for helping children develop confidence and enjoyment in whatever they are learning. Lessons are typically 1 hour long and build in movement breaks and other adjustments depending on the needs of the child
