About Karen
I am an experienced primary teacher specialising in Early Years and Key Stage 1 English. I have a strong background in phonics instruction, early reading and developing confident young writers.
My teaching is clear, structured and tailored to the individual needs of each child. I use a systematic approach to phonics and literacy, ensuring that children build secure foundations before moving on. I believe confidence grows from competence, and I work carefully to ensure that learning feels achievable and purposeful.
I take pride in maintaining high professional standards while creating a positive and encouraging learning environment for every child.

My teaching methodology combines systematic phonics instruction with explicit modelling and guided practice.
I break learning into small, manageable steps and prioritise deep understanding over rushing ahead.
For me, confidence and competence grow together — when children feel secure, they thrive.
My lessons last from 45 up to 60 minutes.
I have over 30 years' experience within the classroom and I have also been tutoring for 8 years. My lessons are aimed at 5-7 year olds requiring daytime lessons i.e. those being home schooled or who are unable to attend school.
