About Tristan
I’m Tristan, a DBS-checked science tutor with chemistry teacher training through GITEP and the University of Bristol. I have been tutoring since university, and I now bring added experience from teacher training and classroom practice to my lessons.
I support students from KS3 through to A level, including GCSE and IGCSE Chemistry, KS3 Science, A level Chemistry, and A level Biology. My teaching is calm, structured, and exam-focused, with clear explanations, worked examples, and regular checks for understanding.
Before tutoring full-time, I worked as a lead data engineer at Pfizer, so I enjoy linking science to real-world applications and helping students see why what they learn matters. I also build SEN-aware lessons and work well with students who need support with focus, confidence, or organisation.
My background includes a BSc in Biomedical Science and an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Kent. I teach online and offer selected in-person sessions in Gloucester, Cheltenham, and Stroud.

My lessons are designed to be clear, structured, and easy to follow. Each new student begins with a 30-minute diagnostic assessment so I can identify strengths, gaps, confidence issues, and the best next steps. After this, I provide a short written report and a plan for future lessons.
Lessons are tailored to the student and usually include explanation, worked examples, guided practice, independent practice, and regular retrieval to help knowledge stick. I use visual models, questioning, and exam-style practice to build both understanding and confidence.
For online tuition, I use screen share, an interactive whiteboard, and clear visual explanations. Lessons can be recorded for revision, and students are set homework or retrieval tasks after sessions. I also provide short follow-up notes so students and parents know what was covered and what to focus on next.
This approach works especially well for students who want calm structure, steady progress, and support that is both encouraging and academically rigorous.
