About Ollie
I currently work in a secondary school as a Teaching Assistant, supporting students across the curriculum and regularly working within science lessons. I am also completing a science degree with The Open University and hope to progress into secondary science teaching.
Working in a school has given me experience supporting students with a wide range of confidence levels and learning needs. I particularly enjoy helping students who feel stuck or overwhelmed by a topic to break it down and realise that they can understand it.
I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and getting things wrong. My approach is patient, encouraging and adaptable, while still challenging students to develop their understanding and become more independent.
Science has always been a subject I enjoy, and tutoring gives me the opportunity to combine that interest with what I enjoy most about working in education: helping young people understand something they previously thought they couldn't.

My lessons are designed to make KS3 Science feel clear, manageable and less overwhelming. I adapt each session to the individual student, taking time to identify topics they find difficult and breaking them down into smaller, understandable steps.
Sessions can cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics from Years 7–9, whether a student needs help with a particular topic, wants to consolidate classroom learning, catch up on missed work or build confidence in science.
I use clear explanations, diagrams, worked examples, retrieval questions and practice activities, adjusting the level of support as we go. Students are always encouraged to ask questions, revisit concepts and say when something doesn't make sense — I am happy to explain something in a different way rather than simply move on.
My aim is for students to leave each session understanding why an answer is correct, rather than simply memorising it.
