About Kaela
I'm a language lover! I love exploring different cultures, which is what prompted me to travel to China after high school. During my time teaching English in China, I fell in love with Chinese language, culture and history. I studied Chinese and Engish Literature majors in university. I love my dog, Crash, and my hobbies include yoga, hiking, fashion, makeup, interior design and reading.
I've tutored English privately for a couple of years both in China and in South Africa. I've worked with kids from age 2 all the way to university students and beyond. I'm friendly, patient, and very easy to get along with.

I'm a native English speaker with a neutral accent. As I'm a language learner myself, I know that speaking is the hardest and scariest part of learning a foreign language. I believe that speaking with a native speaker is the fastest, most natural way to achieve fluency.
If you are shy, I'll be very patient and understanding. Don't be afraid to make mistakes! I'll correct your sentences to sound more natural, and help you build your vocabulary through conversation.
Let's focus on using relaxed conversation to improve your speaking skills! We can discuss chosen topics or let the conversation flow freely. I can also provide:
- introductions to slang/ internet words
- introductions to literary words and expressions
- roleplay scenarios to simulate real life conversations, such as going to the bank, seeing the doctor, school life, renting an apartment, fashion, makeup etc.
- videos/ articles to supplement our conversations
- corrections of your sentences and pronunciation
