About Maria

Learning should be an enjoyable, stimulating activity that validates the many skills you already possess! As a Sydney University-trained and TEFL-qualified teacher of languages (English, French, Serbian), I bring pedagogical skills, plus native speaker fluency, for both Serbian and English.
As I'm based in Belgrade, Serbia, you'll enjoy access to the latest and best classroom resources available. My special strength is leveraging resources in new and creative ways, so your lessons with me will be time well spent. I simply love teaching and I accept students of all ages and levels.
My online students come from Australia, the US, Spain, Italy and France and are aged 20 to 53. Every lesson is carefully planned and adapted to you, personally. Together, we set realistic learning goals and progress through them and beyond, learning language and culture, with options to specialise if you wish.

About the lesson

It's a popular myth that the Serbian language is hard to learn! It just requires commitment, and a teacher who gives interesting lessons. And with me, you;ll get both both!
With my students, learning is structured into thematic units, with clear learning goals, attained through fun learning resources. Every lesson gets you talking, listening, reading and writing.
GRAMMAR is not a dirty word, when you have lots of visual cues and quick exercises. LISTENING is less daunting when we practise together, using amusing skits, TV shows, ads or movie excerpts. CONSTRUCTING SENTENCES is easier if you can practise through an online game first. In fact, there are songs, drama skits, cartoons, comics, poems, puzzles, and many other resources I use to challenge and connect you to real, contemporary Serbian language, as well as its cultural heritage.
The dynamic lesson structure will keep you interested and motivated to learn more.
Finally, homework! It's an essential part of language learning, so you will always have a 15-minute task to do on non-lesson days - but I will ensure this is a fun and meaningful part of your day, that gets you looking forward to your next class.

Maria is a wonderful language tutor and I am so grateful to have found her on superprof. About 2 years ago my husband and I decided it would be fun to learn Serbian and eventually Greek to stay connected with our respective heritages. I searched high and low for the right fit, after the first online meeting with Maria we knew this would be a great match.

She is friendly and fun and very dedicated to our lessons - always taking pictures and remembering stories about her life in Belgrade and Serbia to recall to us in our lessons. This helps us learn the language by making it more personal and giving us knowledge that will actually help us in the real world.

Maria' s teaching style is versatile and she adapts to our learning style and speeds. She incorporates text book work, games, songs and general conversation into our learning and we look forward to every lesson. After 2.5 years, Maria believes my husband and I are at a B2 language level in Serbian and we feel that we are now able to understand and hold basic conversation. In the next few months we should be able to hold small conversations with minimal intervention.
