About Sana

I became a teacher because I genuinely enjoy helping young people develop confidence in their abilities. English can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when students are faced with complex texts, essay writing or exam questions, so I enjoy breaking these down into simpler and more manageable steps.

As a teacher, I am patient, approachable and encouraging. I understand that every student learns differently, and I adapt my explanations and teaching style rather than expecting every student to understand something in the same way. I particularly enjoy literature, creative writing and exploring the different interpretations students can bring to a text.

My goal as a tutor is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their skills without feeling judged. Whether a student wants to improve their GCSE grade, strengthen their writing, understand literature more confidently or simply feel less anxious about English, I want them to leave lessons feeling more capable than when they started.

About the lesson

Hi, I’m Sana, a qualified secondary English teacher with a PGCE in Secondary English and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), as well as a Law degree. I have classroom experience teaching English across Key Stages 3 and 4, including GCSE English Literature and Language.

My approach to tutoring is supportive, structured and tailored to the individual student. I begin by identifying a student’s strengths and the areas they find most difficult, then adapt lessons around their particular needs. I focus on building confidence as well as academic ability, as I believe students make the most progress when they understand not only what they need to improve, but how to improve it.

My teaching methods include modelling strong responses, breaking difficult questions into manageable steps, guided practice and gradually encouraging students to work more independently. For English Literature, I help students develop confident analysis of quotations, characters, themes and writers’ methods while showing them how to structure effective exam responses.

A typical lesson lasts around one hour. Lessons can include a short retrieval or recap activity, focused teaching, guided practice and an independent task followed by detailed feedback. However, lessons are flexible and can be adapted depending on the student’s concentration, confidence and individual goals.

I have experience teaching students aged approximately 11–16, including KS3 and GCSE pupils. My lessons are suitable for students who need general English support, help improving their grades, GCSE preparation, support with specific texts or additional confidence with reading and writing. My aim is to create lessons that are engaging, encouraging and purposeful, while giving students clear strategies they can continue to use independently in school and examinations.
