About Ben

I am a qualified teacher with over 15 years of experience in challenging teaching and leadership roles. My professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training, a Master of Arts in English, a Cambridge CELTA, and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, among many others. I am currently completing my Master of Secondary Teaching with English and Business Studies as my teaching areas. My professional experience includes over 15 years of teaching and leading learning in a range of challenging intercultural contexts. Recently, I was employed as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator at Noblesse International School in the Philippines, where I line-managed and led a team of 15 diverse educators guiding students through the world’s most rigorous K-12 qualification. I also have experience as a successful Academic Manager of a large International House English language training centre that offered a range of academic programmes, such as IELTS & TOEFL exam preparation courses, English for Business Communication courses to corporate clients, CELTA & TKT-YL courses for teachers, and General English classes for adults and young learners.

About the lesson

I believe in leading and teaching students well, but more importantly, showing them how to lead and teach others. There are two prongs to my educational philosophy. First, I believe that my role in the classroom is that of a facilitator who guides students towards conceptual understanding, allowing them to take ownership of their learning through carefully designed student-led activities. Second, I believe that my students should learn real-world 21st century skills and understand real-world 21st century concepts. I think one of the most dangerous phrases in education is "well, we've always done it this way, so let’s keep doing it." Both students and teachers need to be risk-takers, continually augmenting learning by harnessing the power of technology and pushing the limits of what is possible
