About Mashila

Hello everyone
My name is Mashila, and I’m passionate about helping students truly understand Accounting and Economics and not just memorize them.
I achieved distinctions in both Accounting and Economics in high school, which is where I built a strong foundation in these subjects. I also went on to study a Bachelor of Business Science in Economics at the University of Cape Town, which deepened my understanding of how these subjects work in the real world.
My teaching style is focused on clarity and understanding. I break down complex concepts into simple, practical steps, and I make sure students can actually apply what they learn in exams and beyond. I also work through lots of examples and past-paper style questions so that learners gain confidence and exam technique, not just theory.
What makes my lessons different is that I understand what it feels like to be a student trying to master difficult concepts. I focus on building confidence, closing gaps in understanding, and helping each learner improve at their own pace.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy trying new cooking and baking recipes and reading.

About the lesson

What makes my lessons unique is that I have been in the exact position many of my students are in today. I achieved distinctions in both Accounting and Economics in high school and went on to study Economics at the University of Cape Town. I know what it takes to perform well in these subjects because I have successfully navigated the same curriculum and academic challenges myself.

In my voluntary tutoring work at my former school, I noticed that many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they are taught to memorise instead of understand. I focus on helping learners understand the "why" behind concepts, whether it's double-entry accounting, financial statements, market structures, or economic theory. Once students understand the logic, their marks improve naturally.

I also share the study techniques, exam strategies, and problem-solving methods that helped me achieve distinctions. My goal is to help students build confidence, think independently, and achieve results they can be proud of.
