  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I am Moroccan, and I grew up speaking Moroccan Arabic (Darija) naturally in everyday life. It is my mother tongue and the language of my family, my neighborhood, and my culture. However, becoming a teacher was a different journey. My inspiration did not come from one specific teacher, but from my deep desire to help others truly connect with Morocco through its real spoken language. Over time, I realized that Darija is often misunderstood or underestimated, and I wanted to give it the attention and structure it deserves.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

One historical figure who represents Moroccan cultural identity for me is Mohammed V. He symbolizes dignity, unity, and the strength of Moroccan identity. Language is part of that identity. Moroccan Darija carries our history, our diversity, and the influence of Amazigh, Arabic, African, and European cultures.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I love the word “bslama” (goodbye). It literally means “go in peace,” and it reflects Moroccan warmth and kindness. I also love how Moroccans use humor in everyday speech. Darija is expressive, alive, and full of emotion. Hospitality is also deeply connected to the language — when someone says “marhba bik” (you are welcome), they truly mean it.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Darija matters to me because it creates real human connection. Many learners study Modern Standard Arabic, but when they come to Morocco, they realize people speak differently. When my students learn Darija, they can speak to taxi drivers, shopkeepers, neighbors, and families. They don’t just visit Morocco — they experience it.

For me, teaching Darija is a way of sharing my culture and building bridges between people from different backgrounds.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty is that Darija is rarely taught in a structured way. There are fewer textbooks and standardized rules compared to other languages. Pronunciation can also be challenging at the beginning.

What helps most is practice and real conversation. I focus on speaking from the first lesson. I also adapt my teaching to each student’s level and goals. Patience, repetition, and cultural context make a huge difference.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

At school, I remember realizing that many students were afraid of speaking because they were afraid of making mistakes. That moment shaped my teaching philosophy. Today, I always tell my students: mistakes are part of the process. In my classes, we create a relaxed space where speaking comes naturally and confidence grows step by step.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Living in Morocco and interacting daily with people from different regions helped me understand the richness of dialect variations. I have also been in contact with French and international communities, which helped me understand the challenges foreigners face when learning Darija. This allows me to explain concepts more clearly and anticipate common difficulties.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

What makes me a Superprof is not only that I am a native speaker, but that I am patient, adaptable, and deeply committed to my students’ progress. I speak slowly when needed, explain clearly, and create practical conversations from the first lesson.

I understand both the Moroccan culture and the learner’s perspective. My goal is not only to teach vocabulary and grammar, but to help my students feel confident and comfortable speaking in real-life situations.

Teaching is not just a job for me — it is a passion and a way to connect people.
