About Rupesh

Hello! I am Dr. Rupesh Kumar, a Senior Research Scientist with over 15 years of experience at the forefront of the biotherapeutic industry. My career has been dedicated to the intricate world of protein biochemistry, assay development, and molecular engineering.

Before moving to the Indiana biotechnology sector, I spent years at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Columbia University, where I contributed to high-impact research in Microbiology and Cell Biology. Today, I lead advanced research projects that integrate wet-lab excellence with dry-lab innovation, ranging from optimizing high-throughput assays to structural protein modeling using AlphaFold.

Why Learn With a Senior Scientist?

Science is no longer siloed. To be successful today, a student needs to understand how molecular biology interacts with data science. Having navigated the rigorous environments of Ivy League research and private sector leadership, I provide my students with:

Elite Insight: I know what it takes to produce research at the MSKCC and Columbia level.

Practical Mastery: I teach you the actual tools used in modern biotech, like Python-based data pipelines and automated assay development.

Problem-Solving Mindset: We focus on the "logic of discovery"—how to design an experiment, troubleshoot a failed PCR run, and interpret complex data.

Areas of Expertise

Microbiology & Cell Biology: Deep-dive theory and experimental design.

Protein Engineering: Structural analysis and characterization.

Biotech Tools: AlphaFold modeling, Schrödinger, and high-throughput automation.

Bio-Programming: Python for biological data analysis and pipeline creation.

Academic & Career Coaching: Support for graduate students and junior professionals aiming for top-tier roles.

Professional Standards

I bring the same discipline and professionalism to my tutoring that I bring to my research lab. My sessions are organized, goal-oriented, and tailored to your specific academic or professional milestones. Whether you are prepping for a Ph.D. defense or a career in the biotech industry, I am here to ensure your technical skills are world-class.

My Teaching Philosophy: Logic Over Memorization

I believe that Biochemistry is not about rote memorization, but about understanding the logical architecture of life. My goal is to move students away from simply memorizing pathway steps and toward a simulated thinking, where they can predict how biological systems react to change. Because this field is multidimensional, I move beyond standard textbooks and utilize advanced visualizations to explain complex concepts. This ensures students actually visualize why an enzyme functions or how a protein folds, rather than just memorizing the equation.

How I Structure Lessons

Every 60-minute session is fully tailored to your immediate needs, but generally follows a structured arc to ensure retention. We start with the immediate friction points whether that is a specific homework problem, a misunderstood lecture concept, or exam prep. We then break the complex topic down using analogies and digital whiteboarding to simplify the mechanism. I reinforce this with real-world applications to solidify the memory, followed by an active "teach-back" session where you solve problems live with immediate feedback on your logic. We always conclude with an action plan, giving you a clear roadmap of what to review before we meet again.

My Competitive Advantage: The Industry-Scientist Difference

What sets me apart from standard tutors is my active role as a Senior Research Scientist. With a background at top-tier institutions like MSKCC and Columbia University, and current leadership experience in the biotech industry, I anchor abstract concepts in real-world application. When I teach PCR, cloning, or metabolic pathways, I explain exactly how we use these daily in the industry to build protein libraries or identify drug targets.

This allows me to provide value far beyond the syllabus. I act as a mentor as well as a tutor, offering guidance on navigating the transition from academia to industry, advice on graduate school applications, and resume reviews for biotechnology roles. Whether you are an undergraduate struggling with gatekeeper courses, a graduate student troubleshooting experimental protocols, or a professional looking to upskill, I offer the practical expertise to help you succeed.
