About Ruby
Hello and welcome! I am a guitar tutor with 11 years of experience, holding a Bachelor of Contemporary Music with a Guitar Major. I specialise in teaching beginners and young children, helping them discover the joy of music from the very first lesson. My teaching style is playful and engaging, using games, stories, and rhythm activities to make learning fun. I focus on building strong foundational skills that set students up for lifelong musicianship. Patience and encouragement are at the heart of every session, ensuring children feel confident and motivated. Lessons are designed to spark curiosity and creativity while developing technique, timing, and musical understanding. I adapt my approach to each child’s pace, making learning comfortable and enjoyable. I love seeing students’ excitement when they play their first song or master a new chord. Through interactive exercises, children gain both skill and a love for music. I emphasise listening, rhythm, and finger coordination in ways that feel like play rather than work. My goal is to nurture a confident, expressive, and happy musician in every student. Learning guitar can be an adventure full of fun and discovery. I focus on making guitar learning both fun and structured for every student. Lessons start with proper ergonomic techniques to ensure comfortable and safe playing. I teach open chords, power chords, and fingerstyle methods to build versatility across styles. Finger dexterity exercises are included to strengthen speed, accuracy, and control. Ear training is a key part of my approach, helping students recognise melodies and chord progressions naturally. I also cover music theory, including Roman Numeral Chord Nomenclature, so learners understand the language behind the music. Lessons are personalised to match each student’s goals and interests. Worship leaders and fingerstyle enthusiasts receive guidance tailored to their preferred style and repertoire. Mistakes are seen as stepping stones, and progress is celebrated at every stage. I incorporate real songs and creative exercises to make practice enjoyable. Students are encouraged to experiment and develop their own musical expression. My approach combines skill-building, theory, and creativity for well-rounded learning. With consistent practice and support, every student can excel and play with confidence. Guitar becomes more than an instrument; it becomes a source of passion and expression.
