About Mariel

Hello! I am a licensed professional educator with a deep passion for making language learning accessible, engaging, and highly practical.

Currently, I teach the Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL) Mandarin at the secondary level, where I specialize in designing interactive, student-centered curriculum materials. To ensure I am always bringing the best methodologies to my students, I am also currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Education Major in Language Teaching as a scholar at Angeles University Foundation.

About the lesson

Starting a new language as an adult can feel intimidating, but it doesn't have to be! My lessons are specifically designed for absolute beginners (0% knowledge) who want to build a solid, practical foundation in Mandarin Chinese. Whether you are learning for career advancement, travel, or personal growth, we will start from a completely blank slate and comfortably guide you to an HSK 1 level (basic conversational fluency and comprehension).

What We Will Cover:
1. The Building Blocks: Demystifying Pinyin (the phonetic system) and mastering the four tones with patience and clear, easy-to-follow techniques.
2. Survival Conversations: Learning how to confidently introduce yourself, order food, ask for directions, tell time, and handle basic daily interactions.
3. HSK 1 Vocabulary & Grammar: Systematically covering the essential 150 vocabulary words and fundamental sentence structures required to pass the official HSK 1 proficiency exam.
4. Cultural Context: Gaining practical insights into Chinese culture to help you understand why certain phrases are used, making the language feel more alive and relevant.

c. Flexible Communication: While the goal is Mandarin immersion, I am happy to break down difficult grammar rules in English or Taglish—whatever makes you feel most comfortable and helps the lesson click.
