About Humay
I have been teaching piano for eight years. I have taught private piano lessons at a private music school in Norway and at the Distance Learning Program of the Manhattan School of Music and worked as a Teaching Assistant at Bowling Green State University, where I taught Class Piano and a Sight-Reading Class and private piano lessons. In these past eight years, I have given piano lessons to students in all kind of levels, from beginners to masters, as both a private and a class instructor. During this time, I have realized how important it is for diverse teaching strategies to be applied depending on student’s sense of understanding and smart motivation. That is, I believe that accommodating different learning styles in accordance with students’ individual goals and capacities is absolutely essential.
I equip my students with all the available tools and techniques I have personally learned as a performer. I was trained both as a classical and a contemporary pianist, which gives me confidence to teach both standard repertoire and as well as music that is written in our time. I highly value positive curiosity in my students about how to make their individuality work for the development of their performance skills. This helps to build a trustworthy and healthy teaching-learning environment.
