About Gina
I am a university lecturer and researcher in sociology, passionate about numbers (I know, they can be intimidating!) and, above all, about what they reveal about society and human behaviour. My goal is to make statistics and quantitative research methods approachable, engaging, and meaningful.
I hold a PhD in Sociology and have over three years of experience teaching quantitative methods and statistics using SPSS to undergraduate students at a Russell Group university. Alongside formal teaching, I have extensive experience supervising and mentoring students, helping them discover that numbers and statistics are not something to fear, but powerful tools for telling compelling social stories.
How can I help you in practice?
If you are taking your first steps with SPSS or feel overwhelmed by statistics, I will guide you step by step through the basics: understanding the interface, importing data, running key analyses, and interpreting output with confidence. I also support students working with Stata or R, always focusing on making results understandable and meaningful rather than intimidating.
If you find it difficult to participate or feel confident in class, I place particular emphasis on inclusive teaching adapted to different learning styles. Your perspective matters, and I work to ensure you feel supported, heard, and able to progress at your own pace.
If you need methodological guidance for a dissertation, research project, or support in choosing your academic direction, I am very happy to help. I genuinely enjoy accompanying students through both their academic development and their broader learning journey.
In short, whether you need help getting started with SPSS, support with quantitative analysis, personalised academic guidance, or simply a safe space to explore sociology, I would be delighted to work with you and help you build confidence and skills step by step.

My approach to private tutoring is supportive, inclusive, and tailored to each student’s needs. I aim to make learning progressive and confidence-building, particularly in areas that can feel intimidating, such as statistics and quantitative methods. Concretely, tutoring sessions focus on explaining concepts and assignments with clarity and patience, using carefully tailored teaching materials to support understanding and build confidence.
I design my teaching materials to be intuitive, and engaging. I use diagrams, infographics, and visual explanations to clarify complex ideas, and I anchor theory in real-world contexts by drawing on examples from popular culture, current affairs, social media, and everyday life. Each abstract concept is supported by concrete examples to facilitate understanding and practical application.
In addition to one-to-one tutoring, I offer the option of practising independently through personalised exercises created on online learning platforms. This allows students to work at their own pace, consolidate their knowledge, and build confidence without pressure.
My teaching is centred on individual support and on creating a trusting learning environment where questions are encouraged and mistakes are part of the learning process. Whether supporting coursework, helping with SPSS, or guiding a dissertation or research project, my goal is to help students feel supported, capable, and empowered in their learning.
