About Sean

I am a third-year Ph.D. student in pure mathematics and I am passionate about math education. I have a background in chemical engineering and applied math as well. I have worked in the pharmaceutical, machine learning, and polymer industries in the past. My unique pedagogy has evolved over the years from a combination of lecturing and tutoring. I have also taught skiing and swimming to hundreds of students.

About the lesson

I believe the best way to gain and keep knowledge is to have ownership over learning. I begin my first session with a candid diagnostic to assess a student's understanding and identify areas for growth. With these areas in mind, I employ a Socratic method of inquiry where the student naturally discovers key ideas within the subject. Practicing the new skills helps the knowledge become concrete and I then leave the student some exercises to try after the lesson. I ask the student to provide me with their solutions prior to the next lesson and I provide a quick recap of the previous lesson.
I tailor my lessons for all backgrounds, ages, and levels. I have taught children as young as five to adults well into their 50s.
I am decisive with identifying the key areas my student and I need to work on to have the largest growth possible.
