About Danielle

I've been a lifelong comic book and manga fan, and four years into teaching now, I've built my entire approach around that genuine passion, guiding about sixty students so far. My teaching style grew directly from noticing how much faster I personally learned things tied to stories I actually cared about, compared to forced, generic material. I work particularly well with younger students, gamers, and pop culture fans who felt bored or unmotivated by traditional, dry classroom material previously. My teaching style is playful, enthusiastic, and genuinely nerdy in the best possible way, built on the belief that genuine passion drives real, lasting engagement. I connect immediately with students who share similar interests, since that shared enthusiasm makes lessons feel like genuine conversation rather than obligation. Many students tell me they finally look forward to lessons, partly because we're discussing something they genuinely love rather than something forced upon them. I take real pride in watching a student's vocabulary explode once they're genuinely invested in following a story they actually care about. My approach treats language learning as something to be genuinely enjoyed, not endured as a chore. After four years, I remain genuinely excited about this passion-driven teaching approach.

I've been reading comics and manga my whole life, and I build lessons around exactly that kind of material, since genuinely loved stories stick far better than assigned, generic textbook passages. We read panels together, discussing dialogue, tone, and word choice, since comic dialogue is naturally punchy and conversational in a way that transfers really well into real speech. Vocabulary grows around genre-specific language, action, emotion, dramatic dialogue, genuinely fun and memorable words that go well beyond typical dry classroom material available elsewhere. Grammar gets taught through dialogue and narration examples pulled directly from stories students actually enjoy, showing real structures in genuinely engaging, memorable context. I encourage students to discuss their favourite characters, storylines, and franchises, building genuine, enthusiastic speaking practice tied to something they're already excited to talk about constantly. Listening practice sometimes uses anime, film adaptations, or fan discussion content, exposing students to natural English wrapped around genuinely engaging pop culture material. I keep lessons playful and enthusiastic, closer to fan conversation than a formal classroom setting, since that genuine excitement helps nervous or bored students open up quickly. Writing practice sometimes includes writing short scenes or fan fiction, applying new vocabulary in a genuinely creative, personally meaningful way. Every lesson leaves students genuinely excited, not bored.
