About Nicole

I am a school teacher in Canada and mother to two young boys. I have been teaching for 16 years in grades K-8. I am a literacy expert with a lot of additional training. I have also taught English to international students online for several years.

About the lesson

I am a school teacher in Alberta, Canada. I am friendly, outgoing, and clear-spoken. All lessons are tailored to the individual, so repeated lessons with one student are preferred. However I am very skilled at adapting as we go based on student need.

Reading/Spelling: I use a phonics-based approach to teach the building blocks to reading in English. Our initial class would be an informal assessment. Future lessons incorporate word sorts to identify patterns, reading leveled books and discussing the content, as well as some practice spelling. I have 16+ years of reading instruction experience at all levels from very beginner to experienced, but mostly in remedial reading or ELL. I am more suited for beginning/intermediate English learners or those needing help reading and spelling.

Speaking/Listening: These classes are highly personalized to your needs/interests. I prepare questions and content ahead of time. You would learn how to paraphrase, answer questions in a grammatically correct way, and continue the conversation by asking your own questions. I can help you build confidence for both work and everyday life.

Writing: Students wanting support writing can share their assignment with me for help organizing ideas, writing grammatically correct sentences, and ensuring clarity for the reader. For younger students that need help in general, I can provide a writing prompt for us to work on together.
