About John
Hi, I’m John. I’m a piano and keyboard tutor with an LTCL diploma in piano, ABRSM Grade 8 Music Theory, and academic recognition on the Dean’s List at Berklee College of Music. I also have experience as a Core Music Tutor at Berklee, where I supported students in music theory, performance, and musicianship.
Beyond formal piano training, I have performed on keyboard in bands across a wide range of styles, including pop, jazz, and Japanese anime songs. I have also worked as a music director in Hong Kong, where I played and arranged music for live performances. This experience allows me to teach not only piano technique and theory, but also practical musicianship, arrangement, ensemble playing, and how to bring music to life in performance.

* Chords, scales, rhythm, and harmony
* ABRSM/AMEB-style music theory support
* Keyboard skills for band or pop playing
* Jazz/pop chord progressions and comping
* Playing anime songs, pop songs, or student-selected pieces
* Music arrangement and practical musicianship
I aim to make lessons clear, structured, and enjoyable. For beginners, I explain concepts step by step. For more experienced students, I can help refine technique, interpretation, phrasing, theory, arrangement skills, and practical playing for solo or group settings.
