About Izelle

I am an Honors university student with a strong academic background in mathematics and the sciences. I completed my undergraduate BSc in Physiology, Genetics, and Psychology, as well as first-year university Mathematics and second-year Biometry. I achieved a distinction in Mathematics in Matric and consistently performed well in science subjects such as Physics and Chemistry.

I offer Grade 8–12 Mathematics tutoring, focusing on clear explanations, strong foundations, and exam readiness. I believe that many learners struggle with math not because they are incapable, but because key concepts were never explained in a way that truly made sense to them. My strength lies in breaking down difficult topics into simple, logical steps, using relatable examples that help learners understand why something works, not just how to memorize it.

My teaching style is professional, structured, and supportive. I am patient and approachable but also focused and goal-driven to ensure that lessons are productive and lead to real improvement. With a background in psychology, I pay close attention to confidence, motivation, and exam anxiety, helping learners develop both academic skill and a more positive mindset towards math.

I teach in English and Afrikaans and offer lessons online (South Africa-wide) as well as in person in Pretoria. My aim is to help learners feel more confident, better prepared, and capable of achieving meaningful improvements in their mathematics results.

About the lesson

My approach to private tutoring is learner-centred and adaptable. I tailor each lesson to the student’s current understanding, learning style, and goals. I focus strongly on building a solid foundation, because once the basics are clear, more complex maths becomes far more manageable.

What makes me unique as a teacher is my ability to identify exactly where a learner gets stuck and explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them. I often use simple, relatable, and sometimes fun examples to break down difficult ideas. With a background in psychology, I also take a psychological approach to learning, helping students feel more confident, less anxious, and more engaged with maths.

I am fluent in English and Afrikaans and can teach comfortably in either language.

A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to identify problem areas or review previous work. From there, we work step-by-step through concepts and examples, followed by guided practice and exam-style questions where appropriate. Lessons are structured and productive, but always supportive. I am patient and friendly, yet able to be firm and focused to ensure real progress is made.

My lessons are aimed at Grade 8–12 Mathematics learners, following the South African CAPS curriculum, including students who:

Struggle with maths and need concepts explained clearly

Want to improve confidence and understanding

Need focused exam or test preparation

Prefer one-on-one, personalised support

Lessons are available online (South Africa-wide) and in person in Pretoria. My goal is for students to leave each lesson understanding the work better, feeling more confident, and knowing exactly how to approach their next test or exam.
