About Michael
I am passionate about science, and as such, am a learner myself. I seek out new information constantly, and likewise, I am passionate about spreading that information. I loved being in academia because I love the hands-on aspect of science, but that alone felt a bit empty. Teaching filled those gaps. I like to have fun in class, but I also take it very seriously. I want my students to be successful, and I also recognize, especially in more basic courses, I am setting a foundation of knowledge that the student will carry with them throughout their career. I have always taught courses that are for biology or related majors, meaning many of my students were looking to have careers in biology, many of whom went on to medical school. That is a responsibility I take very seriously. But again, enjoying your time in class goes a long way in learning and retaining that information.

I have taught at the collegiate level several courses including introductory biology, zoology, molecular biology, biochemistry. I have even taught graduate level courses in similar subjects. And while I have not taught veterinary medicine in any official capacity, I have trained many new techs that come to work at my hospitals. My lesson plans are always customized, based on the students' needs and learning mode. I am equally comfortable with straight lecture, back-and-forth discussion, visual learning, etc. I was nominated 3 times as teacher of the year at Florida State, awarded once (can only be awarded once), and I have a high ranking on RateMyProfessor.
