About Justin
I know how stressful it is to prepare for college. My teaching method is to provide technical skills combined with positive reinforcement and gentle constructive criticism. The ultimate goal is to help the student construct a cohesive body of impressive work that will open the doors to prestigious institutions like Maryland Institute, Cooper Union, Rhode Island School of Design, Cal Arts, etc.
I was able to attend Maryland Institute on a full scholarship because I was awarded both the Maryland Distinguished Scholar scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship (which involved among other things meeting president Bill Clinton). I know how to guide a student to win these awards, as I did it myself, as did most of my peers.
I also know how to make it fun, not stressful. There is no point if you aren't enjoying it.

I studied general visual arts at Carver Center for Arts and Technology. I followed that up with a degree in photography from Maryland Institute. I can teach you all the skills you need to get a scholarship at a prestigious school. My focus is on photography, however I can also teach drawing and painting. I've actually tutored some of my previous teachers and professors who were making the transition from film to digital photography.
My lessons are customized to the student's needs and specific experience. One of the benefits of working with a private tutor is the customization I can provide that someone teaching an entire class cannot.
Some students might need to start with the very basics. The technical mastery needed to produce compelling images, whereas some students may be at a level where they are trying to develop a compelling voice that will allow their portfolio to stand out to potential admissions boards or scholarship juries.
That is not to say that my lessons are only for college admissions, I will tutor anyone at any age. One of the joys of life is to always be learning, so if you love art but went into accounting and want the art school experience, I will provide value to you as well.
