About Hazel
From the moment I first set my eyes on a chessboard, I was captivated by the strategic depth and the endless possibilities each move presents. Over the years, this fascination has only grown, driving me to master the game and share this incredible journey with others. As a tutor, my goal is to ignite this same passion in my students, helping them discover the joys and complexities of chess.
Teaching chess allows me to combine my love for the game with my desire to help others grow and succeed. There's something incredibly rewarding about watching a student grasp a new concept or execute a strategy they’ve been practicing. I believe that chess is not just about winning; it’s about thinking critically, solving problems, and developing patience and perseverance. These are skills that extend far beyond the chessboard, enriching all areas of life.
My approach to teaching chess is rooted in patience, encouragement, and adaptability. I understand that every student is unique, with their own strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. My journey with chess began over a decade ago, and since then, I’ve honed my skills and deepened my understanding of the game’s intricate strategies. As your tutor, I am committed to sharing this knowledge with you, helping you to not only improve your chess skills but also to develop a profound appreciation for the game.
In my lessons, we will cover all essential aspects of chess, starting with the fundamentals. Whether you're a complete beginner or someone looking to solidify their basics, I will guide you through the rules, basic tactics, and essential principles that form the foundation of good chess play. We will then progress to openings, where you’ll learn how to start your games confidently, control the center, and develop your pieces efficiently.
The middlegame is where the real battle of chess takes place, and my instruction will focus on strategies and tactics that will help you navigate this complex phase. You’ll learn to recognize patterns, formulate plans, and execute tactics that can turn the tide in your favor. Finally, we’ll delve into endgames, the often overlooked but crucial stage of the game where precise calculation and strategic understanding can secure your victory.
My teaching philosophy revolves around making chess enjoyable and accessible. Lessons are tailored to your specific needs and learning pace, ensuring that you remain engaged and motivated.
