About Alex

I’m a dedicated and approachable educator with a strong foundation in student-centered teaching. With experience as a graduate teaching assistant at the university level, I’ve led both small discussion sections and one-on-one learning sessions that prioritize critical thinking, active engagement, and intellectual confidence. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student has the capacity to learn deeply when given the right support and the right questions. I specialize in dialogue-based learning, encouraging students to think aloud, explore different perspectives, and develop clarity in their reasoning. I create a space that is both intellectually rigorous and genuinely supportive. Professionalism, patience, and preparation guide every session I lead. I take the time to understand each student’s goals and learning style, and I adapt my approach to ensure you feel confident, challenged, and respected.

About the lesson

As a tutor with experience as a graduate teaching assistant, my instructional method is rooted in dialogue and collaborative exploration. I believe meaningful learning happens through conversation, asking questions, challenging ideas, and co-constructing knowledge. This approach transforms lessons from passive reception into active engagement, where students feel heard, valued, and intellectually stimulated.

A typical lesson is structured around four flexible stages:

Check-In & Goal Setting:
We review previous concepts, set a specific goal for the session, and clarify any lingering confusion.

Dialogue-Based Exploration:
Through guided discussion, we explore the topic at hand. I present problems, prompt analysis, and help students articulate their thinking. I might use brief readings, case studies, or hypothetical scenarios to prompt reflection and discussion.

Application & Practice:
Students apply what we've discussed—whether through writing, problem-solving, or teaching the concept back to me. I provide feedback in the moment.

Wrap-Up & Reflection:
We summarize key takeaways and establish next steps, often ending with one or two open questions for the student to consider before our next meeting.

What distinguishes me as a tutor is the relational and reflective nature of my sessions. My aim is not just to help students understand content but to develop their voice, confidence, and critical insight.
