About Sarah

I am a Master’s student of Applied Linguistics, with an undergraduate background in classical literature and Latin. I have seven years of tutoring experience in a variety of subjects including math, writing, and biology. Teaching reading is one of my passions, and I love sharing that passion with my students! About the lesson

I believe that the best teaching methodology is able to flexibly adapt to students’ strengths and weaknesses. During the first few classes I typically asses the student's academic level as well as his or her learning style. I teach reading using phonics (the student reads words by sounding them out, rather than the sight-word method). We also work on comprehension, letter formation, and even some rudimentary story composition. Classes are relaxed and comfortable, filled with games and a good dose of imagination.
