About Sandeep

I am an experienced photographer based in London for over 20 years, mostly shooting on Leica across street, portrait and documentary. I write Beyond Fifteen Stops on Substack (beyondfifteenstops.substack.com), and I have spent years teaching friends, colleagues and clients how to actually use the camera in their hands rather than its auto modes.

My students range from total beginners who want to leave auto mode behind, to advanced amateurs building a portfolio or starting to sell work. Lessons are practical, paced to you, and always include a written recap so you can refer back to what we covered.

About the lesson

Whether you are picking up a camera for the first time or refining work for a portfolio or show, lessons are built around what you actually want to shoot. We move at your pace, on your equipment, with practical exercises between sessions.

Foundations: Exposure (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), composition, and confident use of manual mode. The aim is to get you off auto and making deliberate choices.

Gear and glass: Choosing the right lens for what you shoot, prime versus zoom, focal length and how it changes a frame. We also cover filters in depth: polarisers, ND, Black Mist, UV, and when each one actually earns its place in your bag.

Studio, lighting and working with models: Strip lights, beauty dishes, soft boxes, diffusers and gels, and how to combine them for the look you want. Equally important: how to direct, build rapport, and make models comfortable on set.

Portfolio and visual storytelling: Honest feedback on existing work, sequencing and editing down to a coherent set, and shaping a body of images that says something rather than just shows something.

Adobe Lightroom and workflow: A clean post-production workflow from import to export, in both colour and monochrome. We cover the editing tools that matter and skip the ones that do not.

How lessons work: The first lesson is free, so we can meet online, look at your work, and agree on what to focus on. After that, you can book single hours or save with a pack. Every lesson ends with a written summary so you can refer back to what we covered.
