Target Audience: Beginner/Adult Learners and those seeking general computer literacy.

Format: Three 2-hour sessions (6 total hours)
Module 1: OS Mastery – Mastering Windows and Mac Navigation (2 Hours)
Goal: Achieve total confidence in finding, organizing, and navigating the main functions of the computer.
A. The Digital Desktop (30 minutes)
Start Here: Understanding the Desktop, Start Menu (Windows), or Finder/Dock (Mac).
Core Concepts: Using the Taskbar (Windows) vs. the Dock (Mac).
Customization: Personalizing the wallpaper, screen lock, and display settings.
Shortcuts: Creating desktop/dock icons for frequently used programs.
B. Files and Folders (40 minutes)
The File System: Navigating File Explorer (Windows) and Finder (Mac).
Organization: Creating, renaming, moving, and deleting files and folders.
The Cloud: A brief introduction to saving files on services like OneDrive, Google Drive, or iCloud.
Downloads: Locating files after downloading them from the internet.
C. Essential Productivity Skills (30 minutes)
Window Management: Mastering multi-tasking, split-screen viewing, and switching between programs (Alt+Tab / Command+Tab).
Settings Deep Dive: Locating and adjusting Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Audio, and Printer settings.

Installation: Walking through the installation process for both file types: .exe / .msi (Windows) and .dmg / App Store (Mac).
Uninstalling: Properly removing unwanted software using Control Panel/Settings (Windows) or dragging to Trash/Launchpad (Mac).
Updates: Understanding why system and application updates are critical for security and stability.
B. Digital Security and Safety (45 minutes)
Antivirus/Defense: Understanding Windows Defender and Mac Gatekeeper/XProtect—why expensive third-party tools are often unnecessary.
Password Management: The importance of strong passwords and the function of a password manager (e.g., built-in browser managers or third-party apps).
Phishing & Scams: How to recognize suspicious emails, pop-ups, and browser warnings. Never clicking on unknown links.
C. Data Backup Strategy (30 minutes)
Why Back Up? Protecting photos, documents, and essential files from loss.
Options: Comparing local backups (external drive, Time Machine, File History) vs. cloud backups (Google Drive, Dropbox).
The 3-2-1 Rule: A simple strategy for data retention (three copies, two different media, one copy off-site).
Module 3: Hardware and Custom Building (2 Hours)
Goal: Demystify the physical components of a computer and understand how they affect performance and upgrades.
A. Inside the Box: Components Explained (45 minutes)
The Big Four: Understanding the role of the CPU (the brain), RAM (short-term memory), Storage (SSD vs. HDD), and Motherboard (the nervous system).
Terminology: Explaining common terms like GHz, Cores, GB (Gigabytes), and TB (Terabytes).
Performance Check: Using Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (Mac) to see how the computer is utilizing its resources.
B. The Build Process (45 minutes)
Needs Assessment: How to choose components based on a goal (e.g., "I need a computer for web browsing" vs. "I need a computer for video editing").
Compatibility: How to ensure a CPU fits a Motherboard and that RAM is the correct speed.
Case and Cooling: The importance of airflow and managing heat. Note: This is a conceptual walk-through, not a physical build session.
C. Maintenance and Longevity (30 minutes)
Cables and Ports: Identifying common ports (USB-A, USB-C, HDMI) and their uses.
Physical Care: Simple cleaning and dusting tips to keep the hardware cool.
Future Planning: Identifying which components are easiest to upgrade (RAM, Storage) versus those that are hardest (CPU, Motherboard).
