About Ilinca

Hi! I recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of St Andrews, and I’m now studying for my PGCE in Secondary Science (Chemistry) at King’s College London. I’ve always loved science—it was my sixth form chemistry teacher who inspired me to pursue it at university, and it’s turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Chemistry really is the central science, and during my degree I explored everything from chemical biology to physical and organic chemistry. I also studied A-level Biology and Maths and continued with maths modules at university, so I’m confident supporting students across all three subjects. In my fourth year, I took part in a teaching module where I worked in a local school, helped lead lessons, and supported students in the classroom. That experience confirmed how much I enjoy helping others learn. Since then, I’ve tutored GCSE and A-level students online in chemistry, science, and maths. I know that science and maths can sometimes seem challenging, but with the right guidance and encouragement, anyone can build confidence and make real progress—and even start to enjoy the process along the way!

About the lesson

I like to keep my sessions friendly, supportive, and based on what the student needs help with most. Before each lesson, I go over the topic and prepare a few questions or examples to work through together. I usually start with a quick recap, then explain things step by step using clear, simple language. I make sure there’s time to try out questions together, and I always encourage students to ask questions whenever they’re unsure. I check progress by looking at how confident they feel with the topic and whether they can apply what we’ve covered in practice questions. I think it’s really important to create a space where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. My aim is to help students feel more confident in their subject and to support them in reaching their goals at their own pace.
