About Chloe

After graduating from the University of Warwick, receiving a First Class with Honours in English Literature, I am now finishing my masters at the University of Oxford as a Wakeham Humanities Scholar. I have always had a passion for academics and I am excited to share this knowledge with my students. Having achieved 95-100% in many of my exam modules, I can share my study tips to help you achieve the same! I have 4 years of online tutoring experience (experience with students from reception to adult) and 2 years of experience as a teaching assistant (GCSE and A Level) so I know how to make my lessons fun and engaging. I also have 2 years of experience leading classroom workshops to students in years 7-9 and have offered peer-to-peer tuition to students, organised by my university. I have worked in a range of education settings, including several managerial positions in residential summer camps, boarding schools, and state schools. Most recently, I worked as a cover supervisor and teacher of English at a state school in Oxford. I also have extensive experience teaching English as a second language; I am TESOL qualified, and achieved 8.5/9 in my own IELTS exam. I have helped many students improve their English for university, business and personal reasons. Further, I am experienced with 11+ exams and admission to both grammar and private schools, and have supported students in achieving offers to schools such as Radley, Eton, Le Rosey, St Mary's School, Slough, Kendrick Shool Nonsuch High School for Girls, Reading School, Crossfield, and many more. This year, all of my A Level students recieved As and A*s, securing places in top Russel Group Universities, whilst all of my GCSE students scored up to 3 grades higher than they were predicted.

About the lesson

For Literature, I like to look at the book in linear progression, taking my students through different themes which come up in each chapter. Once a book is completed, I like to give my students summary classes in which we go through the main themes of the novel within the book as a whole. For poetry, I find that I can usually get through one or two poems per lesson, depending on how long they are. I usually like to go line by line to discuss relevant techniques. When it comes closer to exams, I like to focus on essay writing by practising through past papers. When it comes to English Language, either as a first or second language, I find that the best way to approach the topic is to spend a few introductory lessons on general theory before jumping into practice questions. Mila has been an amazing student. Very diligent and dedicated, always making detailed notes and spending time revising the content at home. This summer, I offered discounts for intensive revision courses and unfortunately the family misunderstood the fact that these reduced prices were only available for intensive summer revision, and not for the duration of the academic year. It is a pity as all prices were clearly listed from the beginning via written communication. Regardless, Mila has been an excellent student and I wish her the best of successes in her exams to come!

Hi James, great first few lessons with William! William is a very talented student. He has a strong grasp of the literature and a confident writing style. He is able to understand and articulate complex ideas to a high standard. For the past 5 lessons, William and I have been working on sharpening his writing style, particularly focusing on clarity. The only thing left to work on is sentence construction, to make sure that the sentences do not get too wordy and that all of the points flow into each other with approprite sign posting. It is also important for William to stay focused on the question and make sure that all of his points and analysis directly relates to it.
