About Tanya

I recently started working in AI Research. I found my passion in teaching and tutoring since my time in my undergraduate institute (UC Berkeley) where I first taught Discrete Mathematics, Probability Theory, and Convex Optimization. This passion continued throughout graduate school at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign where I worked on Deep Learning and Generative AI, while teaching beautiful subjects like Statistical Learning Theory, etc. During my time at graduate school, I conducted online Mathematics tutoring sessions for students at home in Singapore as I enjoyed teaching school-aged students as well. I've gained a lot of perspective from various experiences and I hope to continue teaching now that I am back!

About the lesson

With my years of training and teaching as a PhD, I am highly focused on emphasizing true understanding and appreciation for the subject matter, rather than rote memorization of techniques. I cater to each student's needs and work with them (all while involving the parents) in order to glean what is their optimal mix of conceptual, procedural, and cognitive approaches to the subject. Moreover, from my time studying Deep Learning and AI, I know all the more how important it is to have really solid fundamentals with no reliance on AI tools for homework "help."

My sessions are typically 1 hr, online format. Rates will depend on the subject level, please message to ask before!

I have tutored for IGCSE/O Mathematics and Grades 1-8 French before, but I am equipped to teach IB/A Mathematics as well. I hope to contribute to your love of lifelong learning!
