About Mingjie
I graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in mathematics and have been passionate about teaching since high school. Before college, I volunteered at my local community center, tutoring students of Chinese heritage from third grade through high school. I focused primarily on mathematics, helping students with homework and preparing them to excel at the next grade level.
During college, I served as a teaching assistant for advanced physics and mathematics courses, including Partial Differential Equations, Optimization, Ordinary Differential Equations, and Physics I (equivalent to AP Physics). These experiences taught me how to break down complex concepts and adapt my teaching to different learning styles.
I'm excited to help you master math and physics through a personalized, student-centered approach!
Note: I have also taught Calculus AB/BC on rare occasions and would be more than happy to help with Calculus too (Calculus is also the foundation for all the subjects I listed above as well).

From my experience working with pre-college and undergraduate students, I've found that a three-step approach is most effective for students struggling to grasp a subject: diagnose, teach, and reinforce.
Diagnose: I begin by identifying the specific areas within a subject where the student is stuck. This involves breaking down problems to pinpoint the exact topics or concepts preventing them from finding solutions.
Teach: I then present the material using multiple approaches, giving students the opportunity to choose the method that resonates best with their learning style.
Reinforce: Finally, I create practice problems to ensure students can independently apply what they've learned and replicate the problem-solving steps on their own.
In summary, my approach centers on comprehension and adaptability—much like a large language model (LLM). First, learn. Then, adapt. Finally, repeat.
