About Shirley

Hi, my name is Shirley and I’m currently a second-year Actuarial Science student. Since my course involves a lot of math, it’s something I work with almost every day, and it has been a subject I’ve consistently done well in since high school.

I have some experience teaching primary and secondary students, which has helped me understand how different students learn and what they may struggle with. I’m a patient and easygoing person, so I try to create a comfortable environment where students don’t feel pressured or afraid to ask questions.

Outside of academics, I enjoy helping others and seeing them improve over time. It’s always nice to see someone go from feeling unsure to becoming more confident in what they’re doing.

I’m also able to communicate in both English and Malay, depending on what the student is more comfortable with.

About the lesson

Math can feel hard sometimes, but with the right approach it becomes much easier to understand and enjoyable. I focus on breaking things down into simple steps and explain concepts in a way that actually makes sense.

I teach primary and secondary students, and I adjust my teaching based on each student’s pace. If something is confusing, I’ll go over it again in a different way until it clicks.

I believe practice is really important, so we’ll do questions together to build confidence and improve skills. My goal is to help students feel more comfortable with maths and not be afraid of it.
