About Arina

# About me

I'm Arina, a mathematics graduate from Novosibirsk State University, currently completing a Master's degree at ITMO University. Alongside my studies, teaching has been a constant part of my life for the past six years.

Working with children came long before I started tutoring mathematics. I've been dancing since the age of three and began teaching dance classes to young children when I was just thirteen. Later, I worked at a children's activity center, leading educational and recreational programs for children aged 6–9. These experiences taught me how differently children learn, how to keep them engaged, and how to build a calm, encouraging atmosphere where they're not afraid to make mistakes or ask questions.

Today I combine that experience with my mathematical background. I enjoy explaining difficult ideas in a simple, visual way and adapting each lesson to the child's pace and personality. Whether a student needs patient support or extra challenges, my goal is always the same: to help them become a confident, independent thinker.

Outside teaching, I'm passionate about mathematics, cities and design, and I love showing children that mathematics is far more than a school subject—it's a way of understanding the world around us.

About the lesson

Hi, I'm Arina. I graduated in Mathematics and Computer Science from Novosibirsk State University and I'm currently completing a Master's degree at ITMO University, where I use mathematical modelling to study real cities. I teach mathematics to children aged 6–15.

My teaching method

Lessons follow a carefully chosen textbook, giving children a clear, logical progression. Every topic is anchored to something real: what connects a metro map, a social network, and a set of secret codes? Why does a fraction behave the way it does? The core of every lesson is a solid, sequential foundation — fractions, equations, geometry — built without rushing toward the next test or exam.

A typical lesson

We work through the current topic in the textbook at the child's own pace, with a short real-world example to anchor why it matters before learning the mathematical idea itself. The lesson closes with the child solving a problem independently, so they leave with genuine understanding, not just a completed page.

What sets me apart

I'm not exam-focused — I care about building a genuinely solid, broad mathematical foundation, so that exams become easy later, as a side effect rather than the goal. During my degree, I ran a maths elective for school students (grades 5–8) exploring topics like the mathematics behind Bitcoin and decoding hidden messages, alongside the fractions, triangles and polynomials of the standard curriculum. I currently teach Russian-speaking children living in the UK, helping bilingual families maintain a strong mathematical foundation alongside the local school curriculum.

Who the lessons are for

Children aged 6–15, at any level — from those needing a strong, patient foundation to curious kids who find the standard curriculum too slow or too dry. Lessons are taught in Russian; for bilingual children, I'm happy to explain unfamiliar words in English or French whenever needed.
