About John
I'm a 3rd year maths student at St Andrews and have been tutoring for 3 years now, with the last year being focussed mainly on web tutorials, though can tutor in person as well. I have two students currently sitting their GCSEs with strong results anticipated. I have a 90+% average over my time at university and so can easily cater for those looking for conceptual tutoring of maths as well as helping to learn the courses at levels up to and including admission tests.

I like to introduce topics by verbally asking questions to judge the student's understanding of the topic, as often they may be able to answer some of the mathematical questions required of them in the exam but there may not be an underlying understanding. After this, I will often fill in the knowledge gaps and link the current topic to some other areas of the course they're studying to boost the ease of remembering how a concept functions. An example of this may be the link between functional transformations, completing the square, finding turning points and also some questions regarding algebraic proof. I'll then go over some questions of my own creation as well as exam style questions, as often there are limited resources available for some courses so don't want to use up revision material and tend to create questions with features of discussion. I'll also leave some questions to complete a day or so after the tutorial to aid in the recollection of the topic.
