About Matthew
I have a first-class degree in Mathematics and Accounting from the University of Exeter. After obtaining this I completed my PGCE year last year teaching Maths to 11-18 year olds. I have regularly been privately tutoring Maths up to A-Level since then.

I firstly assess where a student's strengths and weaknesses lie and then adapt my teaching method to suit the student.
I think it is essential to make the subject topic engaging and approachable. I often relate the topic to a real-world scenario in an effort to further develop the student's understanding and make the subject more fun.
I like to focus on developing a student's conceptual understanding (as opposed to rote learning), which they can utilise in many different scenarios and on many different questions. This will help them to progress more rapidly through a topic. It will also improve their exam performance immensely as they will also be better equipped to answer problem-solving questions.
Lastly, I will go over exam-style questions as the summary of a topic to allow students to test their true understanding of a topic. It will also expose them to what exams may be like, allowing them to simultaneously improve their exam technique.
