About Rica
I am a recent MSci Mathematics graduate from UCL, with experience in mentoring since 2014 and tutoring since 2016.
I want to teach Maths to encourage more students to appreciate the subject and because I enjoy it! I like working with students and coming up of different ways to get more people to understand the subject!

Every lesson begins with our objectives for that hour (typical length of lesson). I like to begin lessons by doing mini exercises to get the brain warmed up. We'll go through some theory (if necessary) so that the students understand WHY they are doing what they are doing and will follow on with examples and exercises. I'll end every lesson with an (exam) question so they can see the use of their learning for that session. It's also important for me to regularly check their understanding and to be flexible with my teaching so that students do not have any misunderstandings.
I will help students achieve their goals further by listening to them on what they need help with and what misunderstandings they may have so that I can address them immediately.
To measure progress, I like to do checks on their understanding, whether through getting them to teach me the content or seeing how they tackle the exercises or mini tests.
To encourage learning, I think it is important to be enthusiastic about learning, particularly about the subject. Maths is often portrayed badly on mainstream media, so it is important for me to dispel this in my lessons and to show how fun learning about the subject can be.
I typically teach KS3/4 Maths; GCSE Maths, Additional Maths and Further Maths; and A-level Maths and Further Maths.
