About Chris

Hi!

I'm Chris

I'm an experienced GCSE Maths tutor & I specialise in teaching Algebra.

I have an excellent knowledge of Maths and how it applies to the physical world, with a dual honours degree in Mathematics & Physics from the University of Sheffield and a postgraduate diploma in Applied & Modern Optics from the University of Reading.

I spent 3 years successfully applying those skills in industry while working as a Research Engineer for a fibre-optic cable manufacturer.

My time working as a Church Pastor has given me excellent teaching, listening and communication skills which have enabled me to be a very effective tutor.

I have over 2 years/200+ hours experience of teaching GCSE Maths as a private tutor. I have tutored many students with varying levels of ability & every student saw a marked improvement in grades.

Most of the students which I have taught tend to have had poor teaching and encouragement at school, rather than a lack of ability, so I am able to spot this & rectify it quickly.

With all of my training and experience I am able improve your grasp of GCSE Maths & look forward to the opportunity to help you achieve higher grades.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is one of problem-solving. In our free initial session we will identify specific problem areas & then start to deal with them head on & turn them from weaknesses into strengths.

All my lessons involve teaching and then practice until the student "gets it". I am able to keep on explaining the subject area in different ways until it is understood.

The lessons will be online using Zoom. We will both share a whiteboard and video link.

We will go straight into dealing with problem areas, by a short lesson followed by a worked example of a typical question. The student will then have the opportunity of answering a similar question with help at hand if needed.

We will repeat this practise makes perfect method of learning for all problem areas.
